Day One in Paris

A 2hour 20min trip on the Eurostar from London saw us arriving at the Paris Train Station. After catching three different trains we came to our destination at the Mecure Hotel at the base of the Eiffel Tower. Wow, what a sight! So it was a quick drop off of our bags and out the door to explore the sights, smells and sounds of this great city. First stop......an open roofed tour bus for a 2 hour tour. We left the Eiffel Tower and travelled throughout the city taking in such sights as Champs-Elysees,Notre Dame, Place de la Bastille and Trocadero to name but a few. Ours jaws dropped at the grandness of it all. Huge buildings and huge history. We took heaps of photos and even did a little filming on the Flip, Steven Spielbergs we are not! We paid the equivalent of $26 for 2 cups of coffee and sat outside on the boardwalk (cause thats what you do!) and Kathryn the coffee snob wouldn't drink it. We've just walked in the door and are resting up so Kathryn can fulfil her dream of eating a French Macaron IN PARIS on her 40th birthday tomorrow.

Just to finish off here is a little recording of the Effiel Tower, taken from our bedroom. The funny thing is if you listen really carefully you will hear Sky news in the background warning people of the terrorist warnings in Paris!

  2. Too cool, your room is incredible. How close is that!! When I stayed in Paris, we stayed in a budget place about 45 minutes train ride from the city. Tragic!! (I was a broke backpacker in the 90's!!)
